Pre Game Meal for
Young Soccer Players

The truth is that a pre game meal for young soccer players is useless if they have been eating poorly through out the week. Poor pre game and training nutrition for young soccer players becomes more noticeable as the soccer athletes get older unless given proper direction.

Pre game eating is most effective if you are consistent with healthy eating and nutritional habits on a daily basis.

Here is a list of foods to avoid before a game, training or practicing:

  • hot dog -sits in the stomach

  • hamburger -sits in the stomach

  • donuts -sugar high then sugar low

  • dairy products -may clog up the breathing pathway (phlegm)

  • chips -processed food with out nutrient value

  • chocolate bar - sugar high then sugar low low

  • roast beef -sits in the stomach

  • steak - sits in the stomach

  • soft drinks -sugar high then sugar.

The last thing you want to do is eat something that is still in your stomach before you train.

It is important to eat foods you are familiar with and have eaten on a regular basis.

This is not the time to try the "new and exciting" fad product. Stick to what you know!

It is also important to have a healthy snack that contains both carbohydrates and protein immediately after you play or train.
